The 2024 European elections, a pivotal democratic event, took place from June 6 to 9 across the European Union member states. This crucial electoral process allowed European citizens to exercise their democratic rights by voting for representatives who will shape the future of the European Parliament.
The voter turnout was similar to that of the 2019 elections, with approximately 51% of eligible voters participating. This turnout, slightly improved compared to previous decades, reflects a steady engagement in the democratic process. However, we continually encourage greater voter participation, as every vote influences future policies and the direction of Europe. Despite an increase in anti-Europe sentiment, the 2024 elections saw the pro-Europe centre maintaining its position.
As the second-largest group and the largest progressive force in the European Parliament, the MEPs of the S&D Group are dedicated to advancing Europe and ensuring inclusivity. By voting, citizens empower efforts to build a social, progressive, and inclusive Europe founded on diversity, freedom, solidarity, equality, and fairness.
